The Veterinary Memorial Fund was founded in 1985 through a cooperative effort of the
Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine (VMRCVM) and the Virginia
Veterinary Medical Association (VVMA). The fund exists to help pet-owners accept the
passing of their pets and to raise funds to support scientific investigations which
improve the quality of health care available for future generations.
The Veterinary Memorial Fund
helps transform an emotionally difficult period into something which is beneficial for all
concerned. The bereaved are comforted through the realization that something
positive has risen from an otherwise painful event, and medical knowledge is advanced. The
Veterinary Memorial Fund receives contributions made by both veterinarians and owners in
memory of a pet.
Since its founding, the
Veterinary Memorial Fund has raised almost $646,000, funds that have supported 88
different projects designed to foster
improved veterinary medical care for our beloved pets. The Veterinary Memorial Fund has
helped VMRCVM scientists develop knowledge, improve procedures, and perfect techniques in
areas such as arthritis, imaging technologies, cancer chemotherapy, pain relief,
reproduction, clinical nutrition, blood banking, ophthalmology, allergy, spinal disease,
antibiotic therapy, nephrology, wound healing, dental disease, equine laminitis, and
surgery.
