In order to take the Veterinary Technicians Licensing Exam in Virginia, you must be a graduate of an AVMA accredited veterinary Technology Program. As of 2007, nationally there are 150 programs accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association.

A complete list may be seen at www.avma.org/education/default.asp .

Students may receive transfer credits for general education courses such as English, chemistry, and psychology, which would decrease the tuition for the program. Other costs include books, living expenses, and supplies.

In-State Full-time Programs

Distance education programs

There are nine distant learning programs accredited by the AVMA. Two are located in Virginia and thus tuition is less for Virginia residents, then it is for those that are out-of-state. See the links below for the list of schools and contact information.

In-state distance education programs

Out-of-state distance education programs

Please remember that the majority of veterinary technology students learn about this field from veterinarians and veterinary technicians. Please encourage qualified employees, clients, and high school students to pursue this field.
